Dr.Sheth's Amla VC 20 Vitamin C Serum

Packaging:

This range from Dr.Sheth’s has different packaging. The color scheme is green and white. I personally think it is okay but I actually preferred the neutral tone packaging. The outer box it comes in has all the required information and much more. The outer layer has the main information and if you open up the box, inside you will see they have explained the key ingredients. They have also explained what the product does and in what step of the skincare routine you can use it. This is definitely innovative of them and gives you full information.

Now coming to the bottle inside. The bottle is made of opaque glass which makes it perfect for a serum. It comes with a black cap and the dropper comes separately. You need to activate the dropper by pressing it at the top (check the added image). At first, I thought I got a defective dropper but after the brand explained to me I realized I am the stupid one. But in my defense, I have never had to activate a dropper before and frankly, I don’t really care for it. I hate added work.

The bottle does have some required information like ingredients and mfg date which are important so I don’t have to save up the outer box. Overall the serum comes in good packaging I personally think it could have a better color scheme and a better dropper. Even after the whole activate debacle I still don’t think it works the best.

Formula of Dr.Sheth’s Vitamin C Serum:

The best part is that this serum doesn’t oxidize or changes color like most high percentage vitamin C serums. That’s the most important thing for me. Now coming to other aspects the consistency is liquidy. It is very lightweight and blends on the skin very easily. My favorite part it absorbs into the skin really quickly and instantly gives you a nice plump effect. At first when you apply it you may feel your skin is a little oily or dewy as I like calling it. Give it a minute or two and it sinks in.

It doesn’t have any fragrance/scent which is great if you have a sensitive nose. The serum is hydrating enough on its own so if you have oily to combination skin you may not even feel the need for a moisturizer. As a dry skin person, I like my moisturizers. Mostly all kinds of moisturizers worked well with this serum. (obviously, you can’t use something that has AHA or BHA in it)

Don’t skip sunsreen in your day time routine especially if you are using vitamin C serum

My fav part is that formula itself has vitamin E in it. Vitamin C-based products work better when you use them in combination with Vitamin E products. They are a perfect pair as they compliment each other. Vitamin E makes vitamin C work better.

My Experience with Dr.Sheth’s Vitamin C Serum

Let’s just start with that yes I am a big fan of Dr.Sheth’s products. Their new launches always excite me. But no matter what I always thoroughly test them and explain all the pros and cons and whether I personally like the product or not.

Dr.Sheth’s products are known for their formulation and this one is no different. Their products always work for sensitive skin and are always beginner-friendly. The same goes for this even though it’s 20% vitamin C serum. Now my skin is already used to vitamin C serums even 20% but I still get a little scared when it comes to high percentage since my skin reacts easily. I also use other actives in my skincare routine and do use chemical exfoliates.

I used this serum for 25 days straight every night (skipped chemical exfoliation during this time). Let’s just say I am not a morning person to test out products. I definitely saw a glow on my skin. Also noticed it did not look dehydrated. I have been getting random acne bursts lately because of stress and hormonal issues which usually go away if I use BHA serum. But I wanted to test this serum out properly so I did not use any BHA serum that month. I noticed my acne dried fast anyway but it did leave light marks. Also, it did fade out some of my old acne scars but not the deep ones. For that, I’ll have to keep using it for another month or two.

The same goes for fine lines and wrinkles. I need to keep using it for a couple of months to see a difference in that area. I will mostly repurchase this since after trying out so many vitamin C serums I really liked using this one.

Mixing Vitamin C Serum with Niacinamide serum:

Frankly, I am never a fan of mixing these two. Even though everyone now tells you it’s perfectly okay. Even the brand said we could use this vitamin C serum with their niacinamide serum (10%). I tried it and my skin itch like anything and I never tried it again. Personally, I don’t think my skin can take it. I like niacinamide and I do use it in skincare products but I am not a fan of mixing it with Vitamin C especially 20%. If you have normal skin and not sensitive then go ahead and try it if you want to. I don’t recommend using them both in the same routine.

Comparison with other Vitamin C serums I have personally tried:

My personal fav will always be the Ilana Brightening serum when it comes to Vitamin C. But that one isn’t made for everyone, especially oily acne-prone skin.

Comparing it to Eclat Vitamin C I personally like this one better since the Eclat one has a strong fragrance. Also, Dr.Sheth’s Vitamin C serum shows much better results overall. The same goes with the Dot & Key one, it has a strong added fragrance and takes forever to show results. But very oil skin tend to like the Dot&Key one better.

I am not the biggest fan of Neemli Vitamin C serum and it’s expensive. The Juicy Chemistry one is better for dry to very dry skin but again I like Dr.Sheth’s one better.

  • absorbs on the skin really easily and mixes well with all moisturizers
  • need an antioxidant serum for anti-aging benefits
  • great for pigmentation

Why you shouldn’t buy it?

  • If you want instant results
  • one bottle isn’t gonna do it you will need to use it for 2 to 3 months at least for deep old marks and scar
  • If you don’t use SPF regularly then don’t use any active based serum
  • you are already using too many actives in your skincare routine
  • if you prefer other actives over vitamin C
  • you are already on a regular retinoid prescription then you can’t mix this serum in the same routine. (but you can use it in your morning routine)
