Oily/ Acne-Prone Skincare Routine

I have dry skin now but I used to be a teen a while back and did suffer from really oily skin and suffered through acne breakouts and I still suffer from allergic reactions and oily T zone and large pores. I wish back then I had a better idea or social media that told me girl you have choices back then I didn’t have much choice but there are some products that are my ride and die and some are brands that I truly trust.
I have made sections skincare routine wise and gave options in each category which are affordable (mostly under Rs 500/-). Skincare products are trial and error method because every skin is different and every skin reacts differently to different products. What works for me may not work for you but trying is how you will know and you know your skin better then anybody so listen to what your skin is telling you.
Also skincare is not one and done kind of system its something you need to keep doing and adjust accordingly. As and when you grow your hormones changes and that is the major reason for your skin to change and react so don’t panic and understand what your skin needs.

1. Face Wash:

Cleansing is important for every skin but especially oily skin because oily skin have large pores which tend to store pollution and dirt which needs to be cleaned out thoroughly. But the biggest mistake what an oily person does is use a stripping face wash which is wrong on so many levels you need to use something that will clean your skin but will also not strip away your natural oils. Something that will maintain your ph level. Some of the options are:

Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Face Wash

This is the face wash I have used through out my teenage years and still carry a small version of this when I’m travelling to beach vacation or anywhere humid. Perfect for your skin and your pocket.

2. Toner:

Toning is super important atleast in my books and in my routine whether you have dry skin or oily skin but its beneficial when you have oily skin since it helps tighten and close the pores to a certain extent which in turn helps in sebum control which helps in reduction of acne. So everyone who is not using a toner in your skincare please do so. You can use any toner which has the ingredients like tea tree, green tea, neem and turmeric. Following are the few affordable and really good options for acne and oily skin.

Jovees Sun Defence Neem SkinToner

Now finding a serum under 500/- is super difficult but you don’t need serum as such you can always replace it with gels and add a drop or two of essential oils like tea tree and turmeric and rosemary. 5. Night cream:

You can always just use your day cream or gel at night by adding a drop or two of oil for the extra nourishment but if you want to invest in a night cream I have one option which I think is great for combination to oily skin for all season and is great for acne prone skin too.

6. Night serum/oil

Okay so this doesn’t fall under 500/- bucks but this is seriously the best serum or night time oil for oily skin and acne-prone skin. This addition in your skincare routine can make a huge difference in your skincare game. It not only helps with fading acne marks but also reduces acne bursts even if you suffer from severe cystic acne. But if you have dry skin then skip this. My sister has oily skin and she loves this but I don’t since I don’t suffer from acne and have dry skin.

7. Mask/Pack:

Masks play a really important role in our skincare routine but using the right kind is super important if you have acne prone skin. Clay based mask are the best for oily skin but if you have cystic acne sometimes clay mask are not enough or difficult to remove so use a gel based mask or spot correcting mask for acne.

I don’t suggest scrubbing when you have active acne but if you wanna use one, use a gel based scrub which doesn’t harm your skin. you can also use the Himalaya Neem scrub. Some options of the masks are:

Pure Elements Anti Acne Face Pack

I do suffer from burst of red bumps or acne sometimes and seriously this is the best in the market. This brand is really under rated but they have some really great products and at good prices and no harmful chemicals.

8. Essential oil:

Essential oils are saviors and you should always atleast have one which helps you the most. My fav are tea tree, lavender and rosemary. They all work for acne prone skin but tea tree is the best.

Nykaa Naturals Tea Tree Essential Oil

I like mixing a drop of this in either aloe gel or bamboo gel. I even mix this with gel based moisturizer but be careful don’t use too much of this as it can be drying. Use one drop max two drop not more because it does sting your skin but its the most fast acting oil for acne. Dries the acne quicker then anything and doesn’t harm the skin. You can also dilute this with rose water and use it like spot treatment.

Nykaa Naturals Turmeric Essential Oil

Works great as antiseptic so minimizes the acne without leaving a scar and it helps in stopping/ spreading the acne. If you suffer from cystic acne this is your best friend either use it like spot treatment or mix it aloe gel.

9. Spot Treatment:

This is something you need if you suffer from acne all the time and it takes too long to go away or spreads very easily. If you suffer from cystic acne and nothing else works then you need this in your life. I know it doesn’t fall under 500/- bucks but this is the best out there. The side effect is that too much use of this causes dryness and skin peeling because of dryness. Also the applicator gets infected after a couple of uses so don’t share and use it inside a month.
