Our Chinese Ginseng and Rice Clarifying Polishing Mask is a creamy, facial exfoliating mask that brightens and revitalizes skin. Ginseng is known for boosting energy and enhancing stamina. It is also known to have toning and stimulating properties. Works to brighten, even and revitalize skin while removing dullness and unevenness. This skin-perfecting mask is essential to minimize pores, reduce imperfections and smooth the skin.
Packaging: It comes in a brown glass tub with a black twist-up lid which is color-coordinated. The name and brand are printed on the jar (including the manufacturing date). The ingredients and information are on the outer cardboard box (which I sadly threw out).
I bought this mask the moment it was launched in India, so I have used this mask for a long time. Essentially this is my 4th tub, which tells you how much I love this mask that I keep repurchasing it and yes I already have a backup.
I have dull and tired-looking skin and I’m sensitive to a lot of things, but this mask doesn’t break me out and helps my skin to look smooth and gives a glow. I use this mask once a week or else I use it whenever my skin feels rough or also if I want a quick glow without the fuss of a facial before an event.
This mask has a unique texture when you rub it in between your fingers you can feel the granules which is great for exfoliating. It’s creamy in texture hence it is not drying on the skin, therefore all skin types can use it. It smells pleasantly amazing too because of the presence of Chinese Ginseng.
It has a cooling and refreshing feel on the skin. Your skin looks amazing from the first use. I sometimes just scrub it on my nose and on dry flaky patches it instantly makes my skin feel good and even-toned. On regular use, you will see some of your scars fading too. (But at-least give it one month of regular use)
Tip: I would recommend keeping this mask on for 10 mins then rub it in circular motions with your fingers gently, which will exfoliate away dead skin which will give you the smooth look. Then use a muslin cloth and gently wipe away the mask.
You can apply this mask with any face pack brush or a silicone brush or you can always use your fingers which actually work the best and there is no wastage of product.
Con: The biggest con of this mask is, it is expensive and second the mask does get over quickly if you use it twice a week.
Price: Rs 1895/- for 75 ml

Update: It’s been more than a year since I reviewed this mask and I still definitely love it and nothing can replace it. I do tend to use this less now since I do test out so many other masks for review purposes. But I would always recommend this mask

2. Chinese Ginseng & Rice Clarifying Milk Toner
The description on The Body Shop page:
- For brighter-looking skin
- Infused with Chinese rice and ginseng extract and organic Community Trade sesame seed oil from Nicaragua.
- 100% vegan
- Formulated without alcohol
- 82% of women agree that their skin looked instantly brighter (based on trial results from 107 women)
Packaging: It comes in a white color plastic bottle with a black color flip cap that opens and dispenses the right amount of toner on the cotton pad. The details are printed on the bottle. The toner itself is white in color, feels exactly like rice water and smells a lot like their corresponding mask as it has Chinese Ginseng to it.
I recently purchased this toner and I have been using this in conjunction with the Chinese Ginseng and Rice mask and used it by itself a few times but I prefer using it after I have used the mask has it gives me an instant glow.
I pour some on a cotton pad and tap and rub in a circular motion on my face and neck. It feels cool and refreshing on the skin. It soothes the skin and is also alcohol-free.
Rice is known for moisturizing and brightening properties and Chinese Ginseng is known to tone and stimulate your skin. It also has Community Trade Sesame seed oil which helps soften the skin.
The toner does all of the above things, thus making it an amazing toner. I use this toner once a week after the mask and my skin has shown quite a good change after using this toner. I’ll obviously keep using it, but not very often that I finish it too quickly as it is costly.
Con: The biggest con is its super expensive for a toner which you have to use it every day to see an effect.
Price: 1595/- for 250 ml

Update: I actually like this way more now. I’m on my 2nd bottle and I truly love using this a lot more often now. So I have this dedicated rice ingredient routine in which I like using this. I take some in my hands and pat it on the skin directly. This gives me a nice hydrated dewy feel and also gives my skin a glow. I have dry skin so this soaks up real fast on my skin but I have made my cousin sister try this who has oily skin and it absorbed on her skin quickly too. Infact, because its lightweight it gives you the hydration without clogging your pores so if you combination skin which gets dull and flaky you would love this.
Availability: The Body shop products are available in their physical stores and also on their official website. You can even buy them from online stores like Nykaa and Myntra.

For reference: I have dull, dry and sensitive skin and have pigmentation around my lips and on the outline of my face. I’m not prone to acne but I do get them and sometimes heat boils due to weather change which does leave marks sometimes. I have a few blemishes too on my face. I have dark circles under my eyes.
