I have two shades from this range and my review is based after using these lipsticks for a period of time in different ways.

Packaging: The outer packaging is quite beautiful in all black with gold strip design. Every shade box is different. The name and details are printed on the outer box. Its color coded on the top and bottom. The lipstick itself is square with color coded caps with Logo in black and black bottom. The cap has a magnetic closure. There is a color code sticker on the bottom of the lipstick with name and no printed on it. The packaging is a lot like their So Matte collection. The only difference is the color coded caps which is an amazing edition. But I do prefer the magnetic closure of the So Matte over these Ultra Matte ones. Even though the quality of the plastic is same, I don’t think these are very sturdy as compared to their So matte range.
I have traveled with So Matte lipstick and it never got disrupt or the cap never came off. The magnetic is quite secure but I can’t say the same about the Ultra Matte lipsticks. The magnetic cap isn’t very secure as it has already come off twice in my hand bag. The lipstick bullet does feel heavy in your hands.
Formula: Unlike their So Matte lipsticks, these lipsticks are definitely matte. The lipstick is quite pigmented. Its opaque in two swipes. When you first apply it feels like its tugging but on your second swipe it applies much smoother. It looks like velvet matte on the lips but it is not creamy. The formula is lightweight on the lips eve if you apply more then 2 coats. It doesn’t crumble and doesn’t accentuate your lips lines as much. But lip balm before the application is recommended as it can emphasize dry patches. It is not transfer-proof. It does transfer throughout the day but the amount transferred is less comparatively. It is long-wearing lasts upto 6 hours. It fades from the middle when you eat something oily or messy, but because it stains it just gives you an ombre effect. Reapplication is also easy. The lipstick does feel a little drying after 4-5 hours of wear which is normal for matte lipsticks. It doesn’t feather so use of lip liner isn’t necessary. Over all I personally love the formula.
SHADES I OWN:
1. Cleopatra: Its a perfect wine shade. Dark deep pink shade which looks good on every skin tone. Especially dusky skin tone. Its not a uncommon color. Usually dark colors are patchy but this color is smooth and opaque in one swipe. This color stains more then the other shades.
2. Mona Lisa: Its the perfect peach nude for fair to medium skin tone. Even deep skin tone can pull it off with a lip liner. Its the kind of color not every Indian company gets it right. The color is quite unique and as its not a dull nude. It is quite bright nude with warm undertone.
My Experience: Over all these lipsticks are true to its claims. They are pigmented, long-wearing and light-weight. The packaging in relation to magnetic closure cap could be better. Nykaa usually comes out with more shades later which they should because this collection has only pinks and reds. It needs more brown, purple and maroon shades and cool tone nudes (which are not just fuchsia pink)
I feel Nykaa is over pricing on this lipstick range. As the quality of packaging of the lipstick itself is a lot like the So Matte range and that cost around Rs399/- then why do the Ultra Matte cost Rs150/- more If they are charging more because of fancy outer packaging that’s stupid because who uses the outside boxes anyway.
Nykaa is suppose to be an affordable Indian brands, that’s their whole marketing concept, Then why are the prices going up with that much margin?
The best part about Nykaa is that they are cruelty free, paraben free and Vegan.
Rating:
I would definitely give the formula a 5/5 but because of the magnetic closure and high price I give it a 4/5 and they also have to come out with different unique shades.
