Packaging:
The tub is super luxurious for a drugstore moisturizer. The tub looks and feels like a glass because it does have some weight on it but its actually really good quality plastic because I have dropped it a few times and it did not break so its sturdy packaging. The top is screw cap in bluish silver. I love the whole blue color scheme, really soothing. I don’t think its super travel friendly because of its weight, otherwise it all fine. The packaging gets an A+ from me.
My Experience:
Its a very light weight water based moisturizer makes your skin feel hydrated and soft. So I have dry skin with oily T zone and my cousin has oily skin with dry patches and this review is gonna be divided with both our experience so you guys can get a better idea.
Dry skin: Lets start with that I like this moisturizer but I don’t love it. Its a very good option but I really love my moisture surge and I know that’s expensive but still I feel that’s totally worth it but saying so I do think this water gel has good features and its a really good alternative but its not a dupe for moisture surge.
I also have sensitive skin but this gel did not break me out so its good. I was worried because it does have fragrance but its okay. If you hate scent in your skincare then definitely skip this. It has a very strong scent which lingers and the whole Hydro Boost range has the same scent but its a good scent. A lot of people are saying the emulsion is better for dry skin, I don’t know because I haven’t tried it.
This gives a very cooling effect on the skin. Gives hydration without feeling greasy or sticky but if you layer it, it does feel sticky. If you have very dry skin then layering is a must because the hydration won’t be enough. I do feel my skin feels dry after 4 to 5 hours and I need to reapply it which I’m too lazy to do. It gives your skin a soft smooth finish when you apply it so it does work as a good base for your makeup.
Overall a good moisturizer if you don’t mind reapplication or layering. But if you layer a lot the tub is going to get over way faster and you will need one tub every month which will become expensive as one moisture surge tub lasts me 3 months. One thing I really like about this moisturizer is that you can mix any kind of facial oil with it and it doesn’t separate that’s the one thing my moisture surge can’t do. The facial oil gives you added hydration and the water gel helps with keeping your skin from looking oily. If you have dry skin but live in a humid weather you would love this, but if you live in a dry or cold place I would suggest skip it.
TIP: If you really want to try this or you already bought it and its not hydrating enough for your dry skin then what you can do is use a very hydrating toner before you go with this water gel.

Oily skin: Now my cousin loves this like truly loves and can’t live without it. She tried it at my place then got one for herself. She tested out the moisture surge and water gel together and she actually ended up liking the water gel more so that’s saying something. This water gel makes her skin soft and dewy without making her oily. Infact makeup goes on much smoother on top and she did not get oily very quickly either. Somehow the gel makes a protective layer and keeps her skin soft and hydrated throughout the day.
This works as a great primer on her oily skin, gives the perfect base. It feels cooling on the skin and absorbs super quickly. In the day she uses it by itself but at night for extra hydration she either doubles up on application or she adds a drop or two of Marula oil. (You can mix any night time/ cold pressed oil like roseship oil) This gives her the added hydration for the night. If you have dry patches but heavy moisturizers are not your thing then you are definitely gonna love this. If you live in a humid place with combination to oily skin type you should give this one a try.
My Rating: 4/5
(because it is a good option especially at the drugstore and also because my sister loves it)
