On an everyday basis I’m not a black kajal person. I prefer brown since it gives my eyes some definition without making them look too stark. But some browns can also make you look dull so finding the right shade of brown that will show up on your skin and will do look is difficult. There are various formulas out there. Following are the ones that I have tried and tested.
1. Revlon Colourstay On stroke eyeliner kajal in Hot Fudge:
My Experience: I can’t find this online but I’m sure its still available in their stalls in malls and beauty stores. I have been using this for the longest time and this is my 2nd one since this was the only brown pencil I used to use before I found something else which is next on the list so I’ll get to it.
This is super matte in finish which I love. It takes some time to dry so you can smudge it out and play with it the way you want till it dries. Once it dries, it doesn’t budge easily. It does fade after 5 hours but that’s okay since it doesn’t move or crease. I have watery eyes and oily eyelids for me eyeshadows and eye pencils really have to be water proof and long lasting and this one is both. I use this more as a base for other eyeshadows since its quite long lasting. If you rub it, it doesn’t smudge but if you use wet hands to rub the intensity will reduce a little but it won’t come off. You will need an eye makeup remover at the end of the day.
The pencil is super creamy so be careful when you sharpen. The shade is more on the cool tone brown and its very good for people who don’t like brown but don’t want to use a dark black either. They do have other colors in this range.

2. Inglot Kohl Pencil – 03
Price: ₹1150 for 1.2 gm
You can find it here: Click here
My Experience: This is the eyeliner which made me not buy the Revlon one again since this has all the features of the revlon one but more long lasting. This is budge proof formula. Its dark, matte and pigmented. The formula is stiff at first use but it does get creamy afterwards. The only thing with this is, it dries much faster so you don’t have a lot of time to play with it. I like using this in my waterline.
The color is also a little more darker then the Revlon one and this one wont smudge even if you touch it with wet hands or fingers. Though its very expensive for an eye pencil I think its worth it since it lasts a lot longer. Even though you have to sharpen this, the tip doesn’t break as easily so the wastage is quite less. They have only three shades in this formula. Their black is also very good but I don’t have that anymore.

3. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Whishkey
Price: 21$

My Experience: I had always heard everyone rave about the Urban Decay eyeliners so when I was in Thailand and saw this in their Sephora I just had to get it. I wanted to try the Black one in Perversion but it was out of stock so I went with this one instead.
Now this one isn’t as pigmented as the Inglot one and its just as expensive but I somehow I still really like the formula. The days when I don’t want to do full glam makeup but look decent and put to together enough, this is my got to. The swatch of this one does look a lot darker but on eyes its a little light more on the neutral tone. This color obviously won’t show up on dark skin or very pigmented eyelids. This fades after 5 to 6 hours. It doesn’t smudge but its not completely budge proof. Its waterproof, I have used this in rainy season and it didn’t run on me like the Revlon one did.
The formula is creamy but it doesn’t break easily when you sharpen it but use a good quality sharpener. I love the formula more because it doesn’t irritate my eyes and its easy to remove at the end of the night too. They have so many colors and finishes definitely check them out. I’m definitely getting more colors when I take another trip.

4. Colourpop MR. BING LINER Crème Gel Liner
by KATHLEEN LIGHTS
Price: 5$

My Experience: If I say this is my fav you guys will think its because I’m love Kathleen lights and so I’m bias. Well its true I’m but I also have another color in this formula and I love that too. Now this is a rich warm brown in a matte finish and if you have brown eye or green or hazel eyes you will love this eyeliner. I have brown eyes and this eyeliner somehow just makes my eyes look more brown. Gives my eyes stronger features. This is perfect when you like to use bold shades in lipsticks as the eyeliner is not too over powering but still does the job of defining your eyes.
Also this is a twist up so thats good when you are on the go, no hassle of sharpening but be careful because the tip is no thin and creamy it does break easily. I wish the packaging was little more study. Its over all very affordable too. It stays on my waterline the longest compared to other eyeliners. It gives a very good competition to the Inglot one. I would definitely recommend this range since they do have a lot of different colors.
If you live in India and don’t want the hassle of ordering directing because of the custom problems I’m linking an Instagram account where you can get it from.

5. H&M Eye shadow pencil and Eyeliner
Eyeshadow pencil in Brownstone: Price: £6.99

My Experience: I bought them when I was in Middle East. I was looking for creamy matte brown which was easy for traveling. Well this is a good stick but unfortunately this color isn’t available anymore in their new sticks range. They have a new formula now which is in the twist up stick form which is good but all shades are shimmery or metallic and they don’t have any proper matte shades anymore which is sad.
This one lasts for around 4 hours then it does crease. For the price I do feel the formula could be a little more long lasting. But over all I do like to use as a base for eyeshadows.

Eyeliner Pencil in Mighty Oak: Price: £4.99

My Experience: I bought the eyeshadow first and loved it so bought the eyeliner. I like this more since its a little more long lasting and also because the undertone of this eyeliner is different then what I have. This is more on the taupe side but still cool tone and it has a metallic sheen to it without looking glossy or too shimmery. It does last for long on the eyes and doesn’t smudge. I can use this on water line too but I don’t as much since its not very smooth for that. But its perfect as an eyeliner. They also have a lot of shades you can check out.

6. L.A. Girl Eyeliner Pencil
Price: Rs 250/-

My Experience: I like the color but hate the formula. The formula is super rough and not creamy at all. I can’t even bring it on my lower lash line without irritating eyes. It can be used as an eyeliner but only if you are fair because otherwise its useless. The color payoff sucks and there is no pigmentation. The swatch also took a lot of build up. If you like something simple cheap and not pigmented then you can try the black color because comparatively that’s better but I wouldn’t recommend this one.

7. NYX Professional Makeup Tres Jolie Gel Pencil Liner
Price: Rs 975/-

My Experience: I have a weird relationship with this one. I bought this a while back on the recommendation from obviously Kathleen Lights and I really liked when I first got it. It was super easy to use because its twist up and it was creamy and the pigmentation was okay and it was long lasting. I liked it so much I even bought the black one for my friend.
Then suddenly in 2 months the formula just dried up. It got super difficult to apply. I even tried melting the top part and used warm water but nothing worked and now I can’t use it at all. I just saved it so I could do a review but basically this is going in the trash. I also heard Kathleen lights say recently that the new formula of the eyeliner is different and that she doesn’t like it anymore either so maybe they did change the formula for the worst.
I also tried swatching it but it gave me a rash so therefore there is no swatch. The color is a lot close to the Inglot one. I wouldn’t recommend this one.
My Rating: 2/5
I don’t believe in spending too much on a kajal since I don’t use it as often but if you want to since you like them or because you have some eye issues then definitely go for them but because I don’t have or used any high end eye pencils I can’t review them or suggest them.
For reference: I do have sensitive eyes and I have done Lasik on both eyes around 5 years ago. My eyes are watery that’s why I do prefer water-proof eye pencils especially for lower lashes so I’m not left with panda eyes at the end of the day.
