Black Kajals: Gel pencils and Twist up

Pencil Kajal

1. SUGAR Stroke Of Genius Heavy Duty Kohl

I’m gonna start with I love this. This is hands down the best Kajal I have used. I actually got this free on Fab Bag subscription for 3 months and I wasn’t expecting to fall in love, but I did and this is my 2nd one. I don’t use black as much so for me buying it 2nd time means I really use it and love it. This is waterproof and lasts on my water line the longest compared to all the other kajals I have tried.

You can obviously use this as an eyeliner too. You get a min or two for smudging before the kajal sets and then it doesn’t budge or fade. If you have the habit of touching your eyes constantly then better get this one. The finish is creamy and matte once it sets. Its quite pigmented and very black, perfect for tight-lining your eyes. It fades after 7 hours of wear which is very good. On my waterline it fades from the 5th hour because I have very watery eyes. If you want it to lasts longer then set it with a matte black eye-shadow.

The only con is, it needs to be sharpened and you have to use the same sharpener it comes with otherwise the tip breaks off easily since its super creamy.

2. Plum Natur Studio All-Day-Wear Kohl Kajal

I loved this before I found the Sugar one but I still love this and use it. This lasts a little less compared to the Sugar one on me but it is also very creamy and pigmented and very very black. Its perfect for people who can’t live without a proper black kajal in their waterline. This won’t disappoint you. Also because this is cruelty free and 100% vegan.

I love this for smokey eyes base since it blends beautifully and I have oily lids which makes smokey eyes difficult for me. When I use this as the base and set it with eye shadow my smokey eyes lasts much longer and looks good. If you prefer kajals over eyeliner I would definitely recommend this one.

This also has the sharpener issue where you have to use the brand sharpener so the tip doesn’t break off since the pencil is very creamy.

3. Chambor

Okay so when I started doing this I did not realize that this has been discontinued and since I had already taken the picture I decided to put this in anyway since I use this often too. This isn’t super black but its perfect for those day where I don’t want too dark eyes and just want some definition without looking too stark.

This is great because it comes with a smudger at the end which comes in handy especially on the go. This needs to be sharpened too but you can pretty much use any sharpener since its not as creamy as the Plum or the Sugar one.

I think I got this a while back at Rs 800/- I know expensive for a kajal pencil but I had really liked it. They do have a new Dazzle range which has black and other colors and at more affordable price but I haven’t tried that so I haven’t linked it. This has been with me for a while I guess I would have to dispose it off in a year because it will expire.

,,Twist-up Pencil

1. Nykaa Eyem24x7 Kajal Eyeliner – Ebony Soul 01

The one problem I have in the Sugar and Plum pencil is solved here since the pencil is twist up and doesn’t need to be sharpened. I usually tend to not like twist up since they are not as creamy as wooden pencil, but this one from Nykaa is creamy, pigmented, very black and doesn’t tug on my waterline or my lash line. Its smooth and doesn’t skip while using it on the lash line and since the tip is fine its perfect for making sharp wings and tight-lining without making eyes extra watery. It stays on my water line upto 4 hours and then starts fading. It fades from upper lash line also after 5 hours. It doesn’t completely disappear. It fades slowly and the black opacity is reduced after 5 hours. But because its twist up its easy to travel with or just to carry around in your bag. This one usually stays in my hand bag.

2. Essence Long Lasting Eye Pencil – 01 Black Fever

I got this in one of my Fab bags a while back and I used it before the Nykaa one. Its good, not as black as the Nykaa one and also its not completely waterproof or smudge proof. It does fade very easily one me. This is good if you like a normal kajal pencil you can carry in your hand bag for on the go without making your eyes looking too stark.

This is quite affordable so in that terms its a good one to try. I know few people who love this kajal and it lasts on them for much longer then it does on me. But if you have sensitive and watery eyes this isn’t for you.

3. L’Oreal Paris Kajal Magique – Supreme Black

My first ever twist up kajal was lakme eye-conic but that didn’t lasts even 2 hours on me so I then tried the Maybelline Colossal which smudge really bad on me then I tried L’Oreal magique and really liked it. It lasted around 4 to 5 hours and did not cause any irritation and also didn’t smudge on me like crazy. So I have used quite a few of these pencils and then I got the Bold version of this free on some shopping on Nykaa and I tried it. I definitely don’t see any major difference between them. The bold one does seem a hint darker and lasts a bit more but nothing too drastic so basically both are the same.

I can’t find the bold one anymore, I guess it was limited edition. This is good everyday kajal. If you don’t have any fuss and just need an affordable kajal which you can carry with you, then this is a good choice. The Nykaa one does seem expensive when compared to this one but I feel the Nykaa one is more black and waterproof compared to this one.

I don’t believe in spending too much on a kajal since I don’t use it as often but if you want to since you like them or because you have some eye issues then definitely go for them but because I don’t have or used any high end eye pencils I can’t review them or suggest them.

For reference: I do have sensitive eyes and I have done Lasik on both eyes around 5 years ago. My eyes are watery that’s why I do prefer water-proof eye pencils especially for lower lashes so I’m not left with panda eyes at the end of the day.
